Authentic Self-Care
Authentic Self-Care is an exercise in taking better care of yourself.
The exercise consists of seven positions that you can adjust intuitively. I recommend 5–10 minutes in each position, or less time if that feels better.
Safety
Begin by lying on your back in bed, preferably in the morning, without a pillow. Let your arms rest beside your head, with your hands slightly higher than your head and your palms facing upward.
Let the area above your head remind you of safety, then silently ask yourself:
“How can I feel safer?”
Calm
Bring your hands to your temples and rest your palms lightly against them, with your fingertips nearly meeting at the top of your head.
Let the upper part of your head remind you of calm, then silently ask yourself:
“How can I become calmer?”
Sleep
Place your hands lightly against either side of your neck.
Let your neck remind you to rest, then silently ask yourself:
“How can I sleep better?”
Care
Lower your hands and rest them on your chest, one hand on each side.
Let your heart and lungs remind you to take care of your body, then silently ask yourself:
“How can I take better care of my heart and lungs?”
Diet
Move your hands downward and rest them on your upper abdomen, one hand on each side.
Let your stomach area remind you of your diet, then silently ask yourself:
“How can I improve my diet?”
Independence
Move your hands downward and rest your palms on your abdomen, with your fingers meeting at the navel.
Let the area around your navel remind you of independence, then silently ask yourself:
“How can I feel more independent?”
Focus
Move your hands downward and rest them lightly on your lower pelvic area, one hand on each side.
Let your lower pelvic area remind you to take care of yourself, then silently ask yourself:
“How can I focus more on self-care?”
Background
My name is David Lalos.
After withdrawing into the woods to compose music, I noticed that the safer I felt, the calmer I became.
I also found that the calmer I became, the better I slept, which led me to ask myself how I could sleep even better.
The better I slept, the healthier I felt, which motivated me to take better care of my heart and lungs.
For example, I found that I could take better care of my heart by improving my diet.
After adopting a plant-based diet, I felt less dependent on animals.
As I felt more independent, I gradually focused more on self-care.
Eventually, these experiences led me to develop an exercise in self-care that I now share on this website.
Music
As soon as my first composition is fully produced, I will make it available only on this website.
Donations
Authentic Self-Care is available without an upfront payment, and my music will be as well.
If they have little or no value to you, I do not expect you to contribute. If you benefit from them, however, I invite you to make a donation that reflects the value they have had for you.
The amount is entirely for you to determine.
